2016: Welcome To Another Great Year For Netflix And Nerds

Well, it’s 2016, and Netflix wants to ramp up its efforts to keep your eyeballs glued to your screens. They plan to keep you watching with multiple series featuring characters from The Defenders comics in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, as well as several comedies and sci-fi series.

Luke Cage, the much-anticipated tie-in to Jessica Jones, is set to premier on April 10. Daredevil Season 2 will debut this spring — rumors say (yes still rumors as of six hours prior to posting) that it will debut March 25, the same day that Batman vs. Superman hits theaters. Jessica Jones is expected to be picked up for another season, though it hasn’t been confirmed. Iron Fist is expected in 2016, though details on casting and premier date are still vague. Fans of Marvel team-ups can look forward to The Defenders, slated to bring together Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Matt Murdoch/Daredevil, and Danny Rand/Iron Fist for a projected five-episode series.

In addition to MCU-based series, Netflix is debuting new shows that should have broad appeal. A reboot of the classic series Lost In Space will follow the Robinson family on a new five-year voyage sometime in 2016. Devotees of Lemony Snickett’s “An Unfortunate Series of Events” books can look forward to a Jim Carrey-free series later this year. With Barry Sonnenfeld on as director, and the actual Lemony Snickett (author Daniel Handler) sharing executive producer duties with Sonnenfeld and True Blood producer Mark Hurdis, this should be a completely different animal.

Rounding out the schedule are several returning comedies, including last year’s hit Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and cult favorite Arrested Development.

Now more than ever, Netflix and chill.
