Crunchyroll Releases Its Winter 2016 Lineup

One of the reliable sources of timely anime from Japan (often simulcast or next day if you are OK with subtitles) is Crunchyroll. Recently it put out the chart of its upcoming new shows or seasons for this winter.

I won’t cut and paste the whole thing, just provide you with a link to it for you to peruse at your leisure. But there are some shows I am definitely looking forward to.

Right out of the gate is the second season of, well, Gate. The show, while it could be considered propaganda for the Japanese Defense Force, is also a very interesting take on the old trope “what would happen if modern military wound up in a Medieval-like magic-using fantasy world”? The main character, Youji, is interesting — a true nerd with hidden depths.

Dimension W looks very creative and fun, a light sci-fi diversion with androids and alternate dimensions. But I am very excited about the anime in the featured image above, Ajin, which could be this year’s Parasyte — The Maxim. Immortal demi-humans apparently born on a bloody battlefield in Africa become involved with a Japanese schoolboy who is killed in a traffic accident and somehow revived — an act that makes him hunted by all humanity. The CGI animation is clearly from the same team that did the excellent Knights of Sidonia, so I have high hopes.

Galko-chan and her two friends…

And then there is Oshiete! Galko-chan, for, well, Super Sonico-like reasons (shifty eyes).

Check out the link above for the entire line-up.
