Heaven’s Lost Property: Anime Review

After being told by numerous people that Heaven’s Lost Property was good, I decided to give it a try. Many of my friends that worked on the show started calling it “Heaven’s Lost Panties” and with good reason. I was skeptical at first. Fan servicey anime generally are not my favorites. However, I have a four episode policy (which I recommend everyone consider when watching an anime). I watch four episodes and see how I feel about the show. Am I interested? Am I not? I call it my Four-Feeling. Heaven’s Lost Property (Sora no Otoshimono), is a 13 episode anime packed with dirty humor and an awesome cast. Directed by Christopher Bevins, you have Brittney Karbowski voicing Ikaros, an Angeloid, and Greg Ayres voicing Tomoki Sakurai, a shameless pervert who will do anything to see some panties. Mix that with Eric Vale as Eishiro Sugata, Jamie Marchi as Mikako Satsukitane, Kara Edwards as Nymph, Trina Nishimura as Sohara Mitsuki.

What is an Angeloid you ask? Well, it’s an angel-looking beings with collars, that are basically subservient to their masters and do whatever their master wishes. The show starts out pretty basic. Tomoki Sakurai is dreaming a dream about meeting a strange girl asking for his help, but he can’t remember her face when he wakes up.  Introduced later in the episode is Ikaros, a well chested redheaded Angeloid that never smiles. She is discovered by Tomoki after she fell out of the sky and *dingdingding*, he becomes her master. You meet the school smart but rather creepy pervert, Eishiro Sugata, and his friend Mikako Satsukitane, who is class rep.

To complete your ‘team’ you meet Sohara Mitsuki, Tomoki’s childhood friend with a killer karate-chop, and Nymph, another Angeloid that had been sent after Ikaros. DON’T PANIC! Yes, this show features teenage boys with hot aliens from outer space, however, it is funny and worth the watch. I was worried about the panties and fan service, but after watching it, I can say it is funny, has decent fan service, and the characters are actually entertaining. One thing I noticed and loved about the show is that it does not 110% revolve around subservient Angeloid ladies. At the same time, it does not scrap plot for fan service. The show has one strangest plots I’ve seen in an anime, you’ll have to watch it to understand. I will say that the last few episodes threw me. This show is a comedy that gets real serious real fast. Be prepared for that. By serious, I mean like actual violence, blood (not just noise bleeds), and painful emotions.

I really don’t know where to put my final thoughts. I feel that only older teens and up should see this (Editor’s Note: Funimation recommends ages 17+). There are a lot of panties, comedy, and innuendos. If that is your humor, watch it. I have been told that there is a second season of the show that FUNimation has said will be released on March 20, 2012 called Heaven’s Lost Property Forte. There is also a movie called Heaven’s Lost Property: The Angeloid of Clockwork as well as OVAs called Heaven’s Lost Property: Project Pink. Funimation released the information of having acquired the home entertainment, broadcast, digital and merchandise rights of the movie. When those come out I will be seeing them for sure!
