After a painful four-year absence Nerd Caliber returned to MegaCon this year, and in a big way. Although I should say MegaCon Orlando, as its parent company FanExpo also runs MegaCon Tampa Bay in September. “Mega” is the right word to describe MegaCon. The Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., is enormous.  The show has more vendors, artists, celebrities and cosplay guests than nearly any convention I’ve been to.

A huge, well-attended convention brings out tons of great cosplayers. The opportunity to compete in FanExpo’s Masters of Cosplay contest, with great cash prizes and a chance to go the finals in Toronto, brings out the best cosplayers from the southeast US. Nerd Caliber got its chance to return to MegaCon because the mastermind behind the Masters of Cosplay contest series, which runs across all FanExpo conventions, is our good friend Pat Covey, who enlisted me to shoot the contestants, and anyone else I could get into the backdrop.

This year had some stunning cosplays, impressive newcomers, and eye-popping creations. Our first Friday gallery includes the king and queen of Atlantis, Predators, princesses, and more. Among them are Kaylaina Cosplay, Seraphima Cosplay & Charactersangel_of_dorknesstalalovesyou, and more.
