Report: HBO ‘Close’ To Ordering Two More ‘GoT’ Seasons

Let’s hope Bran Stark’s abilities have grown up as much as the actor Isaac Hempstead Wright clearly has. Westeros may need him for two more seasons of Game of Thrones. (Warning, Season Five ending Spoiler below.)

With the 10-episode season six of Games of Thrones premiering on April 24, many fans are wondering how — and when — the series will end. The answer might be 2018.

HBO president Michael Lombardo confirmed to Deadline that the network is in serious discussion with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss about a two-season order. While Benioff and Weiss have previously talked about a wanting to shoot a seventh season and possibly more, this is the first time HBO has strongly hinted at picking up the show for Seasons Seven and Eight, which would wrap up the series in 2018.

This comes as welcome news to the legions of Game of Thrones fans who aren’t ready to say goodbye to Westeros yet. While Season Six should resolve the cliffhangers from Season Five — is Jon Snow dead? What the hell is up with Bran and Hodor? Did Cersei find some clothes? — there are numerous other storylines to wrap up. And with George R.R. Martin’s announcement that book six, The Winds of Winter, won’t be published until after Season Six premieres, HBO should have ample material for two more riveting seasons of sex, blood, and drama.
