On Saturday Manny and I were joined by our man in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area, Adam of gamesNgirls. As a veteran of Philadelphia conventions, we benefited from Adam’s presence at PAX Unplugged almost immediately, as a cosplayer walking by recognized him and came over to say hello.

Following an excellent lunch of burgers and sandwiches from Molly Malloy’s in Reading Terminal Market, Adam went with Manny to the two Cosplay Meetups on Saturday afternoon, the Dimension 20 meetup and the TTRPG and Beyond meetup. He took photos while Manny did video. The photo galleries will be posted early next week, and the videos will be up on YouTube in a few weeks. Big thanks to Kate the Great Cosplays who ran the TTRPG and Beyond meetup for giving our studio a shoutout. A couple of cosplayers at the end of this gallery came from that meetup to get photos.

One thing that makes PAX Unplugged stand out among all other conventions is the preponderance of original character cosplay — either from D&D or other tabletop RPGs or LARP campaigns. Many of those OC designs are every bit as intricate and fantastic as anything designed by a professional for a rules book or trading card. If we have any challenge related to OC characters, it’s that they often don’t consider themselves as “cosplayers” which makes our branding as a “cosplay studio” something they don’t seek out. It’s not an issue for any other convention so far, but we will work on the branding before the next PAX Unplugged.

Another great feature about the location of the Pennsylvania Convention Center is that there is a Trader Joe’s directly across Arch Street from where we were set up. Being able to buy all the 17-cent water bottles we wanted as opposed to paying convention prices was a great boon. Not to mention the awesome snacks you can get there. Every urban convention center please take note.

In this gallery are cosplayers jellyrohde, oriontheprotogen, missnikkimuffin, paragon0316, sroby25, windrunnercosplay, heavenlysaturncosplay, asc_jkenn, gammaliz, yamaha274, goldnarrow_, gizmos_apl3nty, jemaginative, roch_like_rock, ber_lin_dsey, jessheartscosplay, irrationaldm, valerie_does_cosplay, and many more.

Because so many of the cosplayers in this gallery are new to Nerd Caliber, I need to explain again our policy on tagging people on social media. If you have a private account, even if you have put it down in our book, we won’t tag you, because your link will go out to our many tens of thousands of fans. And we don’t want your private account to be potentially flooded with unwanted friend requests.
