E3 2016 Preview: Sony’s Game to Lose

It’s just about that time again. The gaming industry and the gaming community are getting excited as the Electronic Entertainment Expo is just around the corner, and that means an E3 2016 preview. This week we already are starting to hear of some new gaming announcements, as the expo will open next week.

Last year we had some great showcases from gaming companies like Sony and Bethesda, while others failed to really impress like Activision and Ubisoft. And now I have some predictions on what we can expect to see from some of gaming’s biggest groups. I will mainly focus on Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo as those are primarily the showcases many will really care about.

Skinny jeans for XBOne?

More about Scalebound please!
More about Scalebound please!

In my opinion, sadly, the Xbox One from Microsoft isn’t worth owning as there aren’t many games for it that I consider system sellers. I honestly only play Killer Instinct on it and I am hoping this year they will show off some games that’ll impress me. I was let down by their presentation last year and some of the games I was looking forward to like Halo 5 I found disappointing. I really hope they will focus on showing off some new games that will be interesting and make the console feel worth owning.

Personally I hope to hear a lot of new info regarding Crackdown 3, Gears of War 4, and my personal favorite from last year, Scalebound (which I am looking forward to the most out of all the games announced). Microsoft will not catch up to Sony and the PS4 in terms of console sales, so maybe a price drop is on the horizon. I don’t know but anything to help the system out in terms of sales and being worth owning would be good. Maybe even a newer version of the console as well, to make it look less bulky compared to the competition. The Xbox 360 went through many versions so why not the Xbox One? Maybe we will see an Xbox One slim this year. Who knows, but for their own sake I hope they impress this year.

Keep up the pressure from 2015
Sony
is the clear winner and constant winner of the console war. With great titles like Bloodbourne, Street Fighter 5 and others, I find myself enjoying many of their games. And by far Sony had the most impressive showcase last year. So all they really have to do is keep this train going. Maybe a price drop in the PS4, seeing how they would probably profit more from it with their current standing in the console war.

I highly doubt they’ll be able to top last year so just show us more. Show us more The Last Guardian, more Horizon, more Final Fantasy 7 HD remake, and hell even Kingdom Hearts 3. But don’t forget to show us some new titles that are in store. Maybe a new Crash Bandicoot, Sly Cooper 5, or maybe even a Jak & Daxter 4? What I am hoping is that games like The Last Guardian don’t get pushed back until next year and we will see a holiday release. I am looking forward to seeing Sony’s press conference the most out of all these game companies and I hope that they impress us at a level close to what they did last year.

All about that NX
Nintendo
, which normally doesn’t make any big announcements or even having a big showcase at E3, has the most to do. With the WiiU’s life cycle pretty much done we now are looking forward to seeing what their new console, the NX, will have in store. It’d make sense to showcase the console at E3. It is allegedly going to release by year’s end and yet no one knows what it looks like, what it’s capable of, the controller, the gimmick, or anything really. During the show hopefully we will receive a lot of new NX info. Also we already know we are going to see The Legend of Zelda game at E3 and I am sure a lot of their Nintendo Direct will be going toward it. This is obvious, as it’s the only game we know for sure is being worked on but who knows what else Nintendo has in store. I am really hoping it is impressive because honestly the only thing I was impressed by last year was Smash Bros. DLC. Other than that I didn’t care for anything else. So Nintendo has their work cut out for them for sure.

Overall, I am very excited to see E3 this year. I will be tuning in for sure to see all the games announcements, presentations, and I hope to be blown away like last year.  I am hoping to hearing more on NetherRealms Studios Injustice 2, what Iron Galaxy has in store for the remainder of KI season 3, maybe more on Overwatch future DLC, and seeing more on Platinum Games’ Scalebound. And maybe some new titles will be announced that will peak my interest and I will be writing more  on these games as more info will come out next week. So stayed tuned to Nerd Caliber for more gaming news. (Ed. note: We will have some panel photos from Adam Etheridge right from E3 to accompany some of Jibrii’s showcase roundups.)
