PAX East 2026 Cosplay Meetups – Nintendo x Super Smash Bros.
The final Cosplay Meetup from PAX East 2026, the “Nintendo x Super Smash Bros.” gathering, resulted in hands down the biggest gallery of the convention. While I don’t have an accurate count, it looks like it just beat out the Resident Evil meetup in total number of attendees. And while I already mentioned how the presence of a celebrity voice actor at the RE meetup may have resulted in fewer photos overall, the fact that Nintendo has so many game characters under its belt means the variety of cosplay in this gallery is greater than in any except maybe the Pokémon one.
The inclusion of Super Smash Bros. in the meetup means that there are cosplays from Metroid, Pokémon, Kingdom Hearts, Sonic the Hedgehog and Street Fighter, to name the ones I could easily identify. That is, in addition to the ones you would expect to be there, such as Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros.
Hosting the meetup was a squad of cosplayers, including the hosts of the Pokémon meetup, mzsylver and professorevergreen, as well as djpebbles07 and vudoo781, who were all the hosts of the same meetup last year. This year it looks like they almost doubled the number of attendees, and therefore we almost exactly doubled the number of photos.
In 2025 there were a total of seven cosplay meetups. This year Jibrii photographed a total of nine, and there were a couple more that either were mislabeled as cosplay meetups when they were just general fandom or were labeled as both, but few cosplayers showed up. So, the number of meetups is growing, and will likely continue to grow next year. I’m looking forward to trying to figure how we, and PAX East, will handle that growth.
