PAX East 2026 Sunday Gallery Part 1
Sunday morning at PAX East 2026, David messaged me suggesting he forgo breakfast and get us a late lunch once his shift was over at 3 p.m. This seemed like a good plan, so I went to the automated cafe on the first floor of the MCEC, just off the lobby to the west, to get coffee and a pastry. On my way back to Room 207 I ran into the wonderful Sailor Moon family in this gallery and told them about the studio.
“Oh, we’re headed right up there this morning. You took our pictures last year and we loved them!” the dad said. Pretty great start to what I hoped would be a much quieter day than Saturday.
Once David arrived, we experimented with something we discussed at the end of the previous day — lowering the power on the Westcott strobes so we wouldn’t have to swap battery packs twice in one day like we did Saturday. I had been shooting with the fill light at 100 percent and the main light at about 80 percent, keeping my ISO at 125. Given the quality of the sensor in my Canon 70D, I figured could adjust the lights so that I would be at ISO 400 and not lose any image quality. The first shots in this gallery of David and a member of the Cosplay Repair team from GiveWave Studios are the test shots from those changes.
To give a good sense of just how much slower the studio was on Sunday compared to Saturday, the changeover to David taking the photos at 11 a.m. happens only about one third the way into this gallery. Then I took over photo duties again at noon, so last nine sets are by me. Counting his photos, I took pictures of only 22 sets of cosplayers in this gallery. I wasn’t complaining though.
