During mid-afternoon on Friday at Anime Boston 2026 I had a steady flow of cosplayers, after a slowdown right after noon when the Dealers Room and Artist Alley opened. After the first hour or two, people started moving through the halls again, either moving from one show floor to another or having done their first lap of the merchandise vendors. It also brought some of the most surprising cosplays to me, something I really enjoy.

I recognized the Ouran Host Club outfits, but not the hairstyles of the group you’ll see early on. One of them mentioned it was from a single episode, and that’s the kind of dedication to obscurity I get a kick out of. We also had the excellent Gold Ship cosplayer, then Moonie Warrior Cosplay as Shinobu from Demon Slayer, but in a design by Anime Boston special guest artist Sakizo. You’ll see more of their designs through the weekend’s galleries.

The L cosplayer from Death Note was wonderful, but it was their partner as Ozzy Osbourne that got me jazzed. Turns out, he is in an Ozzy cover band, so not so much a cosplay as a work outfit.

But it was Andy and Diana as Kintaro and Madame President from Golden Boy that had me the most thrilled. It was the first time that I’ve seen someone cosplay from that early, very ecchi anime, as far as I recall.

Among the cosplayers in this second of three Friday galleries are blossomingcosplay, a.mal.gam, slightecho_, lunascos, kierdoescosplay, jacky.ha.313, elsiethewitch, alaskas.stars, ,mistykristicosplay, ssjpegasus, delilahhayden18, chellebellecosplay, deshsaionji, Moonie Warrior Cosplay, suzukichancos, aceofsnakes, lemon_squeetzy, miss_katkaos, jeff_stark_333, russetburrbank, macklecosplays, dumpstermakeup, milk_tea_artwork, and many more.
