PAX East 2026 Friday Gallery Part 2

David grabbed my Canon 70D and took over photo studio duties at 11 Friday morning of PAX East 2026. After the first two sets of cosplay photos in this second of five Friday galleries, all photos are by David. He is also a Canon user, and used to shoot on the very same model, so it was no problem for him to take over using my camera. OK, well one minor problem, and that was on me.

Since I’m an old, I use the viewfinder on my DLSR camera. David, a young, uses the live view viewscreen on the back of the camera. I didn’t know that my camera had different aspect ratios for the photos taken using the two different ways to see what you are shooting. So, most of the photos in this gallery are in the 3:2 aspect ratio as opposed to the 4:3 ratio. Neither of us noticed it until I was editing Friday photos on Monday after PAX East.

Is it really a problem though? Well, no unless you are obsessive about consistency, and I am not. Will we fix it before the next time we work together? You bet. I’m not obsessive, but I do very much like consistency.

One of my favorite parts of Friday was when Luis of Crash the Stampede arrived. He hasn’t been active as a Nerd Caliber team member for years, and I was so glad to see him again. He had a great idea for doing sit-down interviews asking much more nuanced questions than our typical “How did you make that?” I’ve seen some of the raw clips and I can’t wait to see some of the edited videos. I wish I had more time to hang with Luis, but it became clear by noonish that there wasn’t going to be any break in the stream of cosplayers coming in for photos. Aside from bio breaks, when I would take the camera back, David stayed on duty until 3 p.m. with hardly a second to relax.
