Venture Bros. Retrospective Gallery On News The Show Is Canceled

On Sept. 7 in a tweet the creator of The Venture Bros. Jackson Publick confirmed that the show had not been renewed for an eighth season on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block of shows. No reason was given for the decision to end the show, but the tweet itself might give a clue — Publick said he had received “the highly disappointing news a few months ago.” The fact that he took months to confirm the rumors that had been circulating among the show’s fans is par for the course. The show had seven seasons but that took 17 years to happen. It’s possible Cartoon Network had become tired of waiting.

Another reason could be that the humor has started to become dated. Dr. Girlfriend then Dr. Mrs. The Monarch has been the butt of in-show jokes about her being a transgender woman because of her deep raspy masculine-sounding voice (voice acted by a man). While the show put those rumors to bed in-story way back in Season 2, they have continued among the fandom and critics for the entire run of the show.

This gallery is pretty top-heavy (pun intended) with Dr. Mrs. The Monarch cosplayers, in part because she is one of the most interesting characters in a show full of them, and in part because her design is incredibly sexy. But there are plenty of Henchmen cosplayers, The Monarch, a couple of Molotov Cocktease, and even my friend Phil in possibly his only cosplay as Brock Samson.

Cosplayers in this gallery include ldcos618, Ani-Mia, SoloRoboto Industries, Miss Kit Quinn, and many more.

We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
