Great Philadelphia Comic Con 2019 Saturday Gallery
The Great Philadelphia Comic Con returned to The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Penn., on April 12-14, 2019. For the past couple of years, GPCC has been one of the first conventions of the year I have covered, and this year it would be my very first convention of the year, after a long break.
GPCC has hosted a very solid lineup of celebrity guests during each show I have attended, and this year was no different. Among those in attendance at the 2019 event were Nick Frost, Jack Gleeson, Alice Cooper, Michael Dorn, Nana Visitor, Jake Busey, Walter Jones, and Michael Hogan, just to name a few.
There were numerous panels held during the event, and I was very pleased to see that nearly every celebrity in attendance took part in one of these panels. GPCC is definitely a cut above similar comic conventions in this regard, as celebrity appearances at other conventions are sometimes limited to autographing and photo ops.
One particularly notable panel held during GPCC 2019 was the Red Dead Redemption 2 panel, which featured a whopping SEVEN voice actors from the popular Rockstar Games title. To my knowledge, this was the first time that so many members of the cast were all at the same event.
GPCC also hosted quite a few cosplay guests at the event, including several that were given the opportunity to be a guest at a convention for the very first time. Cosplay guests in attendance at the event included The Philadelphia Avengers, Paladins of Cosplay, The Real Life Peter Griffin, Lua Stardust, Joe Colton, Mike Baaden, DC Cosplayers East, and AlliZ Cosplay, among others, many of which are featured in our photo galleries from the event.
J1-Con hosted a series of video game tournaments on Saturday and Sunday at the show. Gamers had the opportunity to compete in titles including Dragon Ball FighterZ, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.
The Great Philadelphia Comic Con has quickly become one of my favorite events in the greater Philadelphia area. GPCC is always packed with a variety of interesting and entertaining content that will likely continue to make it one of my first stops of the “convention season” for many years to come.
