While it has expanded over the years, the bulk of the activity at Dragon Con still happens in the three interconnected hotels — the Hilton, the Hyatt and the Marriott Marquis. That last one you will undoubtedly recognize even if you have never been to Dragon Con, since it has been used in many movies, most notably The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

You can see plenty of cosplayers in any of the three hotels, with the Hilton being the location of most of the large group photoshoots because of its large outdoor stairs on the back plaza of the hotel, next to the parking garage. But the best place for cosplay viewing is the atrium floor of the Marriott Marquis. Having a standalone bar on the floor definitely helps keep the cosplayers there, but it is just such a large space, one that looks up into the massive beehive Giger-esque interior above you.

At my first Dragon Con, in 2012, I spent almost all my time on the atrium floor taking photos, and stopped at about 1:30 in the morning Saturday and Sunday. Not because there wasn’t anyone around to photograph — the floor was still humming, if not packed to the gills like a few hours prior — but because I was too exhausted to continue. And I do mean exhausted, not hammered. I didn’t have a single drink until the second day of my second year at Dragon Con.

Nearly half of the gallery linked below was taken by Jibrii of spectra_v3 during the group shoots out on the Hilton back stairs. Most of the rest were taken in the Marriott.

Among the cosplayers in this gallery are avera_cosplay, unpaintedspacemarine, sandierrzza, ruutuli, gogo_incognito, antiqued.doll, amazingspidrhan, johndetty, and many more.
