Unlike the industry focused titans such as San Diego Comic-Con or New York Comic Con, Dragon Con is very much a convention for fans and about fandoms. Which is why it is possibly the largest party con in the country. Having three connected hotels as the main location, each with multiple bars, certainly adds to that.

That party atmosphere has led to some problems in the past. I was not at the con in 2014, the year someone dropped glass beer bottles from some balcony high up above the Marriott atrium floor. But I was there the year a non-cosplaying attendee grabbed a cosplayer’s butt, and her cosplaying boyfriend decked him. The Atlanta cops immediately agreed that the boyfriend was in the right, and threw the groper out.

You can get a good sense of how crowded the Marriott atrium level gets by looking at the people in the background of a bunch of the photos linked in the gallery below. There are, however, plenty of places to get cosplay photos away from the crowds. Again in this gallery Jibrii of spectra_v3 has many photos taken outside on the Hilton back stairs and around them. The photos of the characters from Arcane were taken out there in a very shaded area.

Then there is the Marriott 10th floor. That floor is just open space intended for events like weddings. Most of it has support walls spaced about 20 feet apart that don’t go all the way to the windows or the balcony railing, allowing people to walk along either side. Those walls make excellent plain backdrops and I used them myself in the past. In the gallery, the photos of the Spaceballs duo were taken on the beautiful curved stairs that go up from the 10th to the 11th floor.

A testament to how big a draw Atlanta-based Dragon Con is for cosplayers can be seen in the photos of the characters from Final Fantasy X. Half of them were also in one of my Saturday galleries from Another Anime Convention one month ago — in Manchester, NH.

In this third of four galleries you will find cosplayers jedimanda, io_eternal, paradiigmshift, feycrafts, peanutbutterbuilds, dannydoitcosplays, prllme, inkfall, toxiekat, and many more.
