Emerald City Comic Con 2021 Saturday Gallery Part 1 By Daveatthecon
Unlike Friday, Saturday at the recent Emerald City Comic Con was a full day for our team member daveatthecon. This is the first of three galleries worth of images Dave shot on Saturday at one of the West Coast’s most popular conventions.
Dave took all of the photos in this gallery inside the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, unlike on Friday. ECCC is rarely held this late in the year, and rainy Seattle in December is usually not conducive to taking photos outdoors. I was surprised to see, both in Dave’s galleries and searching the hashtag ECC2021 on Instagram, that there was a smaller percentage of anime cosplay at ECCC 2021 than at East Coast comic cons this year. At Fan Expo Boston, at GraniteCon and even at New York Comic Con, the ratio of anime cosplay to other fandoms was higher than typical years. That doesn’t seem to be the case at Emerald City this year, with a ratio not much different than previous years. I don’t know if any conclusions can be drawn from that observation, but it is an interesting factoid.
