Fan Expo Boston 2025 Gallery Part 1
This year things were a bit different than usual for Nerd Caliber at Fan Expo Boston. The first difference was on my end — I had just finished two solid weeks away from home, including a week in Colorado visiting family, so I was really spent. The second was on the video end — Nerd Caliber founder and video producer Manny brought a video team of four people including himself, which was possibly the biggest team we’ve had at a convention since the mid-2010s at New York Comic Con.
Third was on the Fan Expo Boston side. Apparently they went through two new Event Content Coordinators since the last show, including a pretty recent change in that position. So, we never heard from anyone about having a booth or shooting the Red Carpet, and by the time I checked in, they had already picked a different team for their Red Carpet shoots. We still got passes for the show, but it was clear that this was going to be a different Fan Expo Boston than any since it bought Boston Comic Con in 2016.
All of that combined, I was there just for Saturday, and set up on the top floor adjacent to the Masters of Cosplay contest judging area. I had great available light which I supplemented with a bounce flash, but because the location was so remote compared to our usual spots, I only have two galleries from the entire show. Apologies for not getting more photos for you all, but by the time Fan Expo Boston started I was broke, burnt out and a bit bent out of shape (more on that in the next post).
However, the quality of the cosplay in these pics are amazing, and not just because of the fact I was taking pictures of the contestants. Sure, there were the contestants, including a completely crocheted costume (and shark cannon) for Jinx from League of Legends and a period-accurate Tudor interpretation of Emma Frost, but there was also the amazing Penguin from the movie Batman Returns, who was not in the contest.
While my experience was less than optimal, as was that of much of the video team, mainly due to overcrowding on the showroom floor (again, more on that in the next post), most of my friends had a great time, primarily due to getting the celebrity photo ops they wanted — most commonly, John Cena. But let’s get to the gallery.
