Game Bites: Nintendo Dominates E3’s Final Day

E3 has come and gone and after a disappointing third day that had less than stellar announcements, we had the last day on Tuesday and it was a welcome finale, peaking with Nintendo’s presentation. Many fans of E3 were disappointed by E3’s lackluster content, except for Microsoft and Bethesda’s joint presentation on Sunday, so Nintendo Direct was the last hope for many.

Nintendo announced many games at it’s presentation, from DLC of existing games to trailers of games we knew of previously and many surprise drops. The presentation started off as many would expect with a Smash Bros. reveal, this time announcing the Tekken villain Kazuya Mishima. We then got a trailer for already announced games, Life is Strange: True Colors and a Life is Strange Remastered Collection, both getting Switch releases on Sept. 10. Another surprise Switch port was Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, coming day 1 to Switch as well as other consoles. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, releasing on Oct. 5, was the next big announcement, followed by Mario Party Superstars, which is a collection of some of the best minigames from Mario Party games past including reimagined maps from the Nintendo 64, releasing on Oct. 29.

Nintendo brought out the big guns with Metroid Dread, a new Metroid side-scrolling game that will be a direct sequel to Metroid Fusion. Dread, a game that’s been planned for over 15 years and looked amazing, is coming out on Oct. 8. There were more stealth drops with a new game, WarioWare: Get it Together!, which will be co-op and comes out Sept. 10, and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, a WiiU game being ported to Switch later this year. One of the more surprising franchises brought back was Advance Wars, with Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp which are remasters of the Gameboy Advance games. Nintendo brought the end of their Direct with a Zelda segment featuring Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity DLC, an HD remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Skyword Sword, and a Legend of Zelda Game and Watch device. They ended their show with a look at the currently unnamed sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of the Wild, during which we saw some gameplay, cinematics and were given a hopeful release date sometime in 2022.

The sequel to Breath of the Wild will feature sky islands and new powers for Link.

After Nintendo there was a short Bandai Namco presentation highlighting a few already announced games, followed by the final Gamespot’s Play for All showcase, which highlighted diversity in video games. Play For All showed off some of the indie games we’d already seen but with a more in depth look at the diverse teams behind them. E3 officially ended with their award show in which Xbox and Bethesda won the best presentation and Forza Horizon 5 took the award for most anticipated game overall.

E3 is finally over and now all we can do is wait for all the games shown to come out. Let us know in the comment section what you thought about this year’s presentation and which games you are most excited about.
