Zelda Cosplay On International Tiara Day

Today is International Tiara Day and I figured that was the perfect time to finally celebrate the title character from one of the longest-running game franchises in history, Zelda from the Legend of Zelda games. What with the latest Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, released by Nintendo less than two weeks ago and becoming the fastest selling game in the franchise, pulling together a gallery of people in their Zelda cosplay costumes was a no-brainer.

But in keeping with the theme of International Tiara Day, these images are only of cosplayers in one of the many forms of Zelda wearing her crown — even if that crown is mostly a headband, as in the awesome flapper-era Zelda interpretation. Or if it is a crown-helmet-halo mashup, as in the excellent Zelda-D&D interpretation by lisalouwhoxoxo from PAX East 2015, the featured image above.

Before the gallery, a bit about the odd history of International Tiara Day, in part because it has a fairly local connection. It was created in 2005 as a promotional effort by Seasons of Success in West Tisbury, Mass., seemingly a life coaching business with the slogan, “Empowering Women To Change The World…”. At least, according to the Internet Archive that’s the slogan, because aside from the Wayback Machine, there is nothing about Seasons of Success on the internet, beyond the fact that it existed. Tiara Day didn’t take off, though, until the idea was picked up by a Washington State bridal shop, American Rose Bridal, in 2008. Perhaps it was a greater success this time because it was noted that the date was also the birthday of Queen Victoria.

Since then, International Tiara Day has become a day in which anyone can wear a tiara and feel special and empowered.

Among the cosplayers in this gallery are alexiscrafting, Felicia Aries, percylovecosplay, Kitteninstrings Cosplay, lisalouwhoxoxo, and many more.

We use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This allows us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
