Conan And Friends Cosplay On News Of A New Series Coming

On the last day of September, Deadline ran an unconfirmed exclusive story that Netflix was planning a series about Conan the Barbarian, based on the written short stories and novels. Created in the early 20th century by Texan Robert E. Howard, Conan was a popular sword-and-sorcery character who saw a massive increase in popularity in the early 1960s, leading to a long-running Marvel Comics series and to the now classic 1982 movie Conan the Barbarian, written and directed by John Milius and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Since the story in Deadline wasn’t confirmed by Netflix, we know little about the planned series, but author Nellie Andreeva did state that Netflix has the “exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated.” That means that the series wouldn’t have much in common with the 1982 movie, since a lot of Conan’s origin and backstory in that movie was created by Milius, contradicting what Howard himself wrote.

This retrospective gallery of cosplayers from Howard’s Hyborian Age is smaller than usual, since cosplaying Conan usually requires a level of muscularity few cosplayers dare to try. Also, Red Sonja, wearing little more than a scale armor bikini, is more daring than many female cosplayers care to attempt. And to the Howard purists out there, I know Red Sonya (original spelling) was a character set in the 16th century Balkans and Vienna, not the Hyborian Age, but the comic book version Red Sonja has become the de facto version at this point. Roll with it.

Among the cosplayers in this gallery are Onyxeia, King Tide Cosplay, BelleChere, italianpeachcosplayfit, Luv SydneyMarie, Nicole Marie Jean, amazingdarkstone, and many more.

We now use Smugmug to present cosplay photo galleries and will post all photos there, with a link to each gallery in its own gallery article. This will allow us to give you higher resolution images to download — still for free.
